Meet Ollie
A little owl who loves bedtime
Ollie is the storyteller in Petite Tales. He lives on the Tonight screen, sits beside every story and reads along, and when the story ends he yawns, pops on his nightcap and falls asleep. He is calm and kind: he never nags, rushes, or makes a child feel they’ve done something wrong.
What Ollie does
Company for the story, never a chore
There’s nothing to feed, collect or unlock. Ollie is simply there when the story is. Every Ollie here was rendered frame by frame from the app’s own drawing code.
- Tonight

Says hello
“Hoo-hoo! Ready for a story?” A greeting for the time of day, with your child’s name.
- Listen

Reads along
His beak moves with every word of the narration, page after page.
- Read together

Listens
When a grown-up does the reading and the voices, Ollie sits quietly and listens.
- A new story

Writes new stories
“Ollie is writing your story…” while a personal story is being made.
- It’s ready

Cheers
A happy hop, wings flung out, when a new story is ready. Tap him and he might say “That tickles!”
- The end

A big yawn
At “The end” he yawns, pops on his nightcap and falls asleep, and “Sweet dreams” appears with your child’s name.
Make Ollie yours
- Ollie can have any name you like: tap “Give me a name” on the Tonight screen, or change it in Settings.
- Prefer a plain reader? Turn the owl off in Settings.
- “Sweet dreams” is always shown in the dark Dusk colours, whichever theme you use.
Where Ollie comes from
Ollie is drawn by the app itself, in code, which is how his beak can follow the narration word by word. He’s the same owl on the app icon, sitting in front of the moon.
Say hello to Ollie
One library story a week is free, read aloud by Ollie.
