Ollie the story owl reading aloud from a little book

Ollie reads every story aloud, his beak moving with the words.

A bedtime storybook app

Cozy bedtime stories, read aloud

Gentle tales from around the world, painted and read aloud by Ollie the story owl. With Plus, your child becomes the star, painted from the look you choose, never from a photo.

Chapter one

Tonight’s tale

Tap a tale, dim the lights and listen together. Four or five calm minutes, and every story winds down to a sleepy ending. However your family reads, the book bends to the night you’re having.

Read aloud
Press play and dim the lights. Every story is painted and read aloud in a calm, warm voice, and the pages turn by themselves. It keeps playing with the phone locked, with lock-screen controls, at four speeds from Slower to Brisk.
Read together
Some nights you want to do the reading. Full-screen paintings and large, clear words for a grown-up to read aloud, with the text size right on the page. Switch to the narrator and back inside any story.
Just listen
Hide the words and let the story play. The picture stays soft, Ollie keeps reading, and the phone can go face down.
Sweet dreams
When the story ends, Ollie yawns and pops on his nightcap, “Sweet dreams” appears with your child’s name, and the screen fades almost to black. Turn on “One story a night” and another story needs a grown-up until morning.
The Petite Tales reader, recorded from the app: a painted page of Goldilocks read aloud, Ollie’s beak moving with the narration, and the page turning by itself
Plate I The reader, recorded from the app: Goldilocks and the Three Gentle Bears, in the dim Dusk colours the app starts in.

Chapter two · With Plus

A story starring your child

With Plus, make 10 brand-new stories a month with your child as the hero, painted into every picture and read aloud. No photos, no uploads of your child: just a few choices, and a painter who follows them.

Ollie writing a new story with a feather quill

Ollie is writing your story…

  1. Choose their look

First name, age, skin, hair, eyes, glasses, pyjamas, and a cuddly companion who comes on every adventure.

  2. Paint a portrait

A storybook portrait is painted from those choices, so your child looks the same in every book.

  3. Pick tonight’s idea

Eight story ideas, from a trip to the stars to a sleepy farm, or your own: “finds a tiny door in the garden”. Add a little lesson if you like, such as sharing or a new baby at home, and choose about 3 or 5 minutes.

  4. Start reading

The story opens as soon as page one is painted and narrated, while Ollie finishes the rest. It’s saved on your phone and kept in your family’s backup.

Never a photo

You choose how your child looks from a few options, and the pictures are painted from that description. The app has no camera or photo access at all.

24 languages, 6 voices

Personal stories can be written and narrated in 24 languages, from Spanish and Hindi to Japanese and Sinhala, with 6 narrator voices and 4 reading styles, including a hushed Whisper.

Chapter three

The bookshelf

Old tales, retold softly for bedtime. Each tale keeps its heart and loses its sharp edges: the wolf is silly, the troll is sleepy, and the endings are soft ones.

Gentle retellings of Aesop, the Brothers Grimm, Andersen, the Jataka tales, Anansi, Nasreddin Hodja and folk tales from around the world: 102 in all, four or five minutes each. Search by animal, place or theme.

Chapter four

Ollie’s evening

Ollie is drawn by the app itself, in code, which is how his beak can follow the narration word by word. Here he is through a bedtime, rendered frame by frame from the app. You can give him a new name, or turn the owl off in Settings.

  1. Ollie waving hello with one wing
    Hello

    Says hello

A greeting that fits the time of day, with your child’s name: “Hoo-hoo! Ready for a story?”

  2. Ollie reading aloud from a little book, his beak moving
    Once upon a time

    Reads along

His beak moves with every word of the narration, page after page.

  3. Ollie listening quietly, looking up
    Your turn

    Listens

In Read together, when a grown-up does the reading, he sits quietly and listens.

  4. Ollie writing with a feather quill
    A new story

    Writes

“Ollie is writing your story…” while a personal story is being made, then a happy hop when it’s ready.

  5. Ollie heavy-eyed, giving a big yawn
    The end

    Yawns

A big yawn when the story reaches “The end”, and then his nightcap goes on.

…and he falls asleep at the very end of this page. More about Ollie

A note to grown-ups

Made for the last ten minutes of the day

Dear grown-ups,

No ads. Nothing interrupts a story: no banners, no videos, no pop-ups, and the app doesn’t use an advertising ID.

Never a photo. Your child is painted from a description. You pick hair, skin, eyes and pyjamas; the app has no access to your camera or photos.

Grown-ups only. Buying, settings and links out of the app sit behind a press-and-hold parent gate.

No tracking. There are no analytics in the app. We don’t record what your family reads; only anonymous crash reports, to fix bugs.

In all: 102 gentle tales, four or five minutes each, 24 languages for personal stories, and no ads, photos of your child or analytics. Not now, not later. The details are in the privacy policy.

Goodnight,
BitFuzed

Good to know

What is Petite Tales?

Petite Tales is a cozy bedtime-story app for children: gentle tales from around the world, painted and read aloud by Ollie the story owl, with new stories that star your child. There are 102 tales in the library, each about four or five minutes long, and each one winds down to a quiet, sleepy ending.

What ages is it for?

The stories are written for children of about 3 to 7: short, musical sentences, a little gentle repetition, and nothing frightening. There are no villains who stay mean, no peril and no scary endings.

What is free, and what does Plus cost?

Free: one library story a week, picked at random and yours to replay all week, read aloud by Ollie. Petite Tales Plus opens the whole library and adds 10 new stories a month starring your child, for $79.99 a year (with a 7-day free trial that includes 3 personal stories) or $7.99 a month, billed through Google Play or, on iPhone and iPad, the App Store. Extra personal stories are $1.99 each once the month’s are used.

Do you need a photo of my child?

No, never. You choose how your child looks from a few options (hair, skin, eyes, glasses, pyjamas and a cuddly companion), and the pictures are painted from that description. The app has no camera or photo access at all.

Who wrote the stories?

Library tales are our own gentle retellings of public-domain stories: Aesop’s Fables, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen, the Jataka tales, the Panchatantra, Anansi and folk tales from around the world. They are written, painted and narrated with the help of AI, then read, looked at and listened to before they are published. Every narrated page is checked against its text.

Can I read the story myself?

Yes. “Read together” shows big words and full-screen storybook pictures for a grown-up to read aloud, with a text-size control. You can switch between that and Ollie’s narration from inside any story.

Does it help with screen time at bedtime?

It tries to. The default Dusk colours keep the room dim, “Just listen” hides the words so the phone can be put down, narration keeps going with the screen locked, and at the end Ollie says goodnight and the screen fades almost to black. Turn on “One story a night” and another story needs a grown-up until morning.

Is Petite Tales on iPhone?

Coming soon. Petite Tales is on Google Play for Android phones and tablets today, and an iPhone and iPad version is on its way. Plus belongs to your family, so a subscription bought in either store will work on both.
